The WI ladies take over the Studyvox FM studio!
To help celebrate Comic Relief and the 36 hour radio marathon put on at Studyvox FM - a few of the local WI ladies decided to record their first album. To say that the resident DJ's, Rik and Rob were impressed is an understatement as both have applied for WI membership."Their rendition of Tiddley Winkey was truly moving - it brought tears to our eyes". National AGM 2010
This year's event was held at the Cardiff International Arena and we were part of the audience that were inspired by the speakers and entertained by the winners of the TV show, Last Choir Standing - "Only Men Aloud".
The sun shone its approval at 95th AGM and 4000 ladies sang their hearts out with Jerusalem, then settled down to listening to our chairman’s address.
We were treated to a very informative and witty talk by John Bercow, speaker in the House of Commons, although due to the timing of the election, and Prime Minister’s question time, this had to be via a video link.
Tim Smit, whose brain child was the Eden project gave us a lively and very entertaining talk, about his various projects, followed later by Lee Durrell widow of Gerald, and a co-founder of their zoo in Jersey to protect endangered species.
Then what turned out to be the highlight of the proceedings – a live appearance by Only Men Aloud, what charming, smart, handsome and talented young men, we all wanted to adopt them! Their classical renditions were superb, only surpassed by their Tom Jones impressions, which caused much merriment and more than a few quivers!! The WI will never be the same.
Finishing with another rousing Jerusalem, Hen Glad Fy Nhadau and the National Anthem, we were all proud to be partakers of such an uplifting and unifying experience.
